Guide Services at GetAway Bay
Trout Fishing:
1/2 day (4 hours) Stream Fishing $150.00 per person Morning
or Afternoon.
Our local streams hold native Brook Trout. Depending on your
fishing style I will tailor my trips to what you want to catch.
We also have streams with planted Brown Trout and hold over's,
as well as, smolts of lake run fish in streams not known to
hold Browns. Rainbow trout can be targeted as well, but these
are the smolts of steelhead and will require a good amount
of walking to reach.
You
will need to bring fishing gear; either spinning or fly gear,
which ever you prefer to fish with. I use both depending on
the situation. Waders, vest and other gear are your responsibility.

Duck
Hunting :
1/2 day (6 hours) Morning Hunts Only. $100.00 per hunter.
Each time of the season offers something different in the
Western UP. The first two weeks of the season offer puddle
duck hunting and can range from beaver ponds, flooded timber,
wild rice rivers to lakes. Hunting conditions vary widely
and anything from walk-in hunting to canoes to boat hunting
with a blind are used.
Birds traditionally taken during this time of year, in order
of frequency, are Mallards, Wood Ducks, Ringnecks, Teal, Redhead,
Widgeon, Pintail, Black Ducks, and a few Gadwall.
I
live to duck hunt. It's what I think about 365 days
a year. I scout every day and know the birds well. Patterns
follow traditional paths but do vary day to day and that's
why I keep an eye on the birds.
Later
in the season is when things really get going in the Western
UP. Diver ducks arrive following their historic migration
route, stopping to feed and rest for as long as mother nature
allows before pushing them on with ice and snow. Large numbers
of birds stay until freeze up and during this time of year
I am in a love-hate relationship with the outdoors. I can't
stand to miss a chance to pursue these birds and at the same
time I crave sleep. I have to admit the birds win out and
I sleep after freeze up.
Birds traditionally taken during the late season, in order
of frequency, are Bufflehead, Bluebills, Redheads, Ringnecks,
Black Ducks, Golden Eye, Canvasbacks and a mix of late season
mallards.
You
will need to bring your gun, license (small game, Michigan
waterfowl, HIP endorsement, Federal Migratory Bird Hunting
stamp), shells (non-toxic), waders and other warm clothing.
Number 2 shells are a good choice. I can make arrangements
for you to hunt without waders but please let me know in advance.
I
will provide the boats (canoes, Kayaks, 18 foot Crestliner
with grass blind). Decoys and other equipment is also provided
by me.

Grouse
Hunting :
1/2 day (4 hours) Morning or Afternoon. $100.00 per hunter.
The Western U.P. is famous for grouse hunting for a reason.
It offers a perfect blend of habitat for these birds. Partridge
season opens September 15th each year and runs until November
14th. It opens again later in the year for a late season.
Anytime in the first season is a great time to chase grouse
although October is considered prime time. I hunt over flushing
dogs that work close and flushes are inside 20 yards. Arrangements
can be made to hunt over the clients dogs as well. You will
need a Michigan small game license, shotgun and shells (#8
game load is a good choice), Hunters orange and comfortable
walking boots.

I
only guide for what I am truly passionate about.
Walleye, Perch, Northern Pike, Smallmouth, Bear, Whitetail
deer are all animals I enjoy pursuing. I spend many days every
year chasing them but I don't guide for them because it's
not my truest of passions. I will offer any of my guests as
much advice and maps as I can to get them into any of these
animals at no charge.
In
addition, if you are going to be duck hunting or trout fishing
and just need some advice don't be afraid to ask. I offer
the guide service to those that want it but freely share information
for the do-it-yourself trip as well.
